It's Revolution Baby

These were all taken on 25 October 2019, Day 9 of the (still) ongoing anti-government protests in Beirut, which are locally referred to as "thawra" or "the revolution" - commonly used in sentences like "I'm going down to the revolution", "I spent all afternoon at the revolution" and "Let's stop at Torino's on the way back to the revolution".

Can't have a revolution without some homemade signs, and can't have a hipster revolution without some kind of instalation art piece of homemade signs like this one.

This shot from the Egg was missing something, so this young lady helpfully obliged and began waving her flag.
Built in 1965, the still unfinished brutalist Egg building in the centre of Beirut has more or less been closed to the public for the past 50 years, but is now open for protesters and tourists to get a better view of the action below.

One group of protesters entering Riad el-Solh square, which is the centre of the action, as it's the closest people can get to the Grand Serail, the seat of the government.
And two police lines separating these protesters from the other group that's already there. When police started stopping people from crossing these "front lines", we realised that this wasn't our revolution, and best not to be caught in the middle wh
After our close call in the centre of the action, we retreated to an overpass just above the city centre, to quietly reflect on everything, including how all these shiny new buildings are one of primary examples of governmental and societal corruptio
The quiet spot on the overpass got slightly less quiet when a crowd formed and lit a couple fires, which attracted the police/army in large armoured vehicles.
When a group of Hezbollah supporters showed up chanting, waving Hezbollah flags and beating people up who didn't seem to agree with them, we channeled our inner coward and decided it was time to call it a day....
Our attempt to return to the revolution that night was thwarted by the large group of people outside Torino's, where were detained for some 6-7hrs drinking vodka and having various discussions...
...and never actually managed to make it those last few hundred metres (they are the hardest)....
