Kittens ❤️ Zyrtec

Making new friends

On This Day: Friday Night Zoom Call with the Boys

Ah, those heady days (and nights) of the year 2020! Unfortunately, no recollection of this seemingly memorable Zoom date though. Must've had one too many virgin strawberry daiquiris....

Friday night Zoom date with our boys Noam and Slavoj. Just four curmudgeon buddies talking about how awesome everything in the world is these days, while drinking virgin strawberry daiquiris and listening to the Red Army Choir's version of Bella Ciao on repeat.....

Extra Organic

Everyone's heard of extra virgin* olive oil, but ‘extra organic’ is a mystery even to Google. Must be a new Egyptian agricultural innovation....

*Although, if you're like us, the ‘extra virgin’ part is probably one of those common things you don't really understand completely and end up looking up every few years and then almost immediately forgetting.

Little sister problems

That look on your face when you know that you're adorable, smart, just the right amount of curious and irresistible to almost anyone, but are also fully aware that your adoption hopes ultimately rest on your brother, who unfortunately happens to be comically uncoordinated, whiny as hell and a bit of a moron. Tough luck, kitten. Here's hoping for the best....

Buzz buzz buzz 🦟 🦟 🦟

Assuming this was mosquito smoke, because prior to the evening that the truck emitting it rumbled through the streets here, there were barely any mosquitoes, and now there are loads of them.

Must have accidentally mixed up the mosquito repellent with the mosquito propagant. Oops! Although a bit strange that the latter even exists....

Bath time

When mom says it's time for a bath, but all you wanna do is sleep some more....

On This Day: If Dr Seuss had been Malaysian…

Originally posted on 10 May 2023, on Tioman Island, Malaysia:

The universe works in very mysterious ways sometimes. Like the other morning when we were randomly wondering what it would be like if Dr Seuss had been Malaysian, and then lo and behold, not 10 minutes later we found that our usual breakfast spot was closed, so had to go next door, and were served this cartoonish culinary creation in lieu of the standard nasi lemak. What were the odds of that?

Kittens. Love. Zyrtec.

Kittens. Love. Zyrtec. Or more accurately, they love it when humans who have cat allergies take Zyrtec, as it really seems to mitigate the symptoms.

Of course, it also causes mild drowsiness and some days makes it impossible to keep your eyes open after 9pm, which isn't ideal. But it's not like a whole lot happens after 9pm anyway, right?

On a totally unrelated note, if you know anyone who works in the marketing department of GSK Middle East, please have them contact us. Thanks!

Hungry Sharks

You can't go anywhere in the world these days without seeing 'clever' marketing signs at various bars, restaurants, cafes and apparently even food carts. At least this chap put a local spin on it.

FYI: If you never even considered the possibility of being attacked by a shark in the Red Sea, but nevertheless still google 'shark attack red sea' while doing research for a post, you might be in for a gruesome surprise....

Magic Hour

Just a guy getting comfortable and enjoying a little magic hour at the beach by himself. Nothing wrong with that....

Enough Bricks in the Wall

It's a shame that the lyrics to 'Another Brick in the Wall' aren't more interesting, because it would have been nice to have something go along with this photo. Oh well. You win some, you lose some....

True. But…

When a nearly deserted strip mall on the outskirts of town tries to take credit for something it's got no business taking credit for....

Missing Princess

Is it too late to post a photo like this and make some kind of missing princess joke? Asking for a tactless friend, who runs a totally different page.

Watermelon season here in Egypt.... 🍉 🍉 🍉

On This Day: Well-trained canines

This page is nothing if not a first-rate repository of informational canine excrement signs from all around the world.

This one from Medellín also doubles as a notification that you're in a nicer part of town, which means you're less likely to see people openly smoking crack in the streets.

Originally posted on 17 May 2022, in Medellín, Colombia:

Medellín is an incredibly diverse city, with huge differences between its various suburbs, districts and barrios. Luckily, it's usually pretty easy to tell what type of neighbourhood you're in.

For instance, if the dogs have been trained to clean up after themselves, then you're definitely getting your flâneur on in a nicer part of town.....

In case anyone was curious

Three months later and the beach and mountains (and these palm trees) look exactly the same, just in case anyone was curious.

On the other hand, the original goal of keeping the ratio of beach to cat posts near 50-50 has long since been abandoned, albeit to little fanfare, or complaints.....

"We're adorable, please adopt us!"

These photos are all from a "We're adorable, please adopt us!" post in the main community group here in Dahab. No takers yet, but seems like the easier solution is just going to be finding someone who doesn't hate cats to take over the rooftop from next month.

The joys of being easily amused

FYI, when you're easily amused, life is awesome all the time. True for both kittens and humans.…

Relatively New Street Art in Dahab

Some relatively new street art here in Dahab: An homage to Belgian surrealist artist Rene Magritte's 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘓𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘴 𝘐𝘐, which, despite being painted in 1928, is widely interpreted as a humorous commentary on the social restrictions imposed by governments around the world during the Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS‑CoV‑2) pandemic of 2019. Very prescient these Belgian surrealists were!

Gen Alpha Kitten

When you find stepdad's phone laying around, and snapping off some selfies just comes naturally....

On This Day: Simpson-style electioneering in Colombia

This photo is still amazing - reach, engagement and likes (or lack thereof) be damned! Petro's presidency on the other hand hasn't quite lived up to the lofty expectations many people had for it.

But at least Colombians got a little taste of hope and change, even if it ended up just leaving a bitter taste in the back of their throats....

Originally posted on 21 May 2022, in Medellín, Colombia:

Colombian elections don't seem to be a big crowd pleaser amongst our fan base, so we'll get back to the normal mélange of quirky travel takes shortly. But first, we've got to share this instant classic from yesterday's rally with you.

There's a lot going on here, so feel free to take you time taking it all in.....

Relatively New Street Art in Dahab II

More relatively new street art from Dahab: A still scene from that one movie with Scarlett Johansson, where she plays a 17th century Dutch maid who likes to dress like an Ottoman, which was apparently the height of fashion in Holland at the time (seriously, that last part's no joke, you can look it up).

On This Day: Bakso with a view

Could really go for a piping hot bowl of Indonesian bakso soup for dinner right about now. Mmmm mmmm....

Originally posted on 22 May 2023:

Nothing like a piping hot bowl of Indonesian bakso soup for lunch to cool you down on yet another hot, humid day in the tropics. Okay, maybe it didn't exactly do that, but it was tasty.

Total cost with iced lemonade and beachfront view: 12.5 ringgit, or around $2.75

Bonus Cat(s)

The bounty from yesterday morning's walkabout: This portrait of a very peculiar looking orange cat - with a hidden bonus cat thrown in for good measure.

Relatively New Street Art in Dahab III

The third and final instalment in our (incredibly unpopular) series of relatively new street art in Dahab:

An homage to late 1970s NYC graffiti artist SAMO© aka 1980s painter Basquiat, whose paintings now sell for over $100m at auction - because the art market is all about the quality and intrinsic value of the work and has nothing at all to do with oligarchs laundering money, evading taxes or other shady business....

Perfect Spot

When you find the perfect spot to take a nap on a super hot day....
